Make Your Mark: Talk with Jim Agnew
Just as I was thinking about how to deliver a birthday gift to San Diego, some folks from the States came to visit Healthcare China. As FMP interns, we can get access to these global seniors. Jim, a veteran controller, just sat next to me.
Jim had worked for PwC for six years before he joined GE this January. Being tired of preparing paper work for the Sarbanes Oxley Act requests, he decided to move onto new field of his career life. "GE is big and has its own way of dealing with Finance, GE GAP. Some of them are pretty good, but some don't work." he said, "In such a company, you have to line up with right person, or you lose the game of politics."
He joined GE's new CDP (aka Controller Development Program) as an experienced manager. After first rotation in US, he turned to China to help Healthcare improve its controlling system. During the conversation, he expressed great passion to work in China. At least, he is an excelling chopstick user.
I am thinking about the lifestyles. Finance in public firms, investment banks and manufacturing companies are totally different. Do you like traveling around the globe? Do you need more family life? Can you work overnight and catch up with deadlines? Do you want to keep up with the market? And how do you feel about money? Even do you like tie and shirt? These are all different styles. Which one do you prefer?
